Flowery Branch Police said Thursday the 72-year-old man who disappeared from his home early Wednesday was found nearly 100 miles from home, is okay and has been reunited with his family.
Deputy Chief Todd Templeton says William Obrien, who suffers from dementia, was found by a Barnesville police officer. Barnesville is in middle Georgia just off I-75 north of Macon.
Templeton, who announced Wednesday night that Obrien had been found but provided no additional details at the time, said Thursday that after he left home, he had been known to be in the Grantville, Douglasville, College Park, Macon and Jackson areas before he was safely located. In addition, he said a Mattie’s Call had been issued. That’s a statewide alert for disabled or elderly individuals.
“The Flowery Branch Police Department would like to express our gratitude to all those involved in the search for and safe return of Mr. Obrien,” Chief Templeton added.
