The Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) has stopped a sewer spill into an unnamed tributary to Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon but not before about 1,500 gallons of the effluent escaped.
About 12:20, city spokeswoman Christina Santee said, city officials received a high-water alarm at
a sewer pumping station near the 1300 block of Gould Drive. The problem was corrected by 1:30, Santee added.
“DWR estimates about 1,500 gallons reached the tributary. The area of the spill was
assessed and no dead or stressed aquatic life were found. All field parameters for water
quality were within state water quality standards.”
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division was
notified Sunday afternoon and signs were posted.
