HCSO: Two busted on drug, weapons charges

Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigators arrested two people this week on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop on Skitts Mountain Road.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“…Tuesday around 5 p.m., Enoch Franklin Smith, 39, and Emily Joann Smith, 32, both of Gainesville, were traveling on Skitts Mountain Road in the area of Mountain Glen Drive when a…deputy stopped their vehicle for an expired registration.

Emily Smith initially provided the deputy with a false name and birthdate, but when the deputy determined her true identity, he placed her under arrest.

At that time, the vehicle was searched, leading to the discovery of a quantity of marijuana and what was believed to be methamphetamine. The search also yielded seven (7) rifles and three (3) handguns. Investigators with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) were contacted to take over the investigation.

Both subjects were transported to the Hall County Jail and booked on the following felony charges:

·         Possession of a sawed off shotgun/machine gun/silencer/dangerous weapon

·         Possession of marijuana (45 grams)

·         Possession of methamphetamine (1 gram)

Emily Smith also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In addition, she had outstanding arrest warrants from both Hall and Habersham counties.
