Deadly swatting call in Rome; Latinos on guard as Trump inauguration nears

(GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK)

*The act of swatting has claimed a life in Georgia. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (pictured) reported that a woman was killed in a traffic accident involving a police officer responding to a bomb threat at her (Greene’s) home. 11Alive reports the threat was traced to a Russian IP address, but there was no active threat against Greene. The officer was not critically injured in the crash, but Greene called it “murder.”

*The Latino community in Georgia says it’s preparing for President-elect Trump’s massive deportation plan. The director of the Latino Community Foundation of Georgia, Gigi Pedereza, tells Atlanta News First many are fearful of what will happen when Trump enters office. But she adds that immigrants here should not lose hope. Under Trump’s proposed plan, Georgia law enforcement which are part of the 287 (g) program – such as the Hall County Sheriff’s Office – would be able to act as federal immigration agents. Pedereza says she and her office are working to make sure the immigrant community know their rights.
