NWS updating Thanksgiving Day forecast

The National Weather Service (NWS) continues to refine the forecast for Gainesville and vicinity for the rest of this holiday week and into the weekend.

“This Thanksgiving brings unsettled weather,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said in a Tuesday afternoon Facebook post. “Rain & storms spread into GA beginning late Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day.

“There is currently a Marginal…risk for severe thunderstorms. Main risk is strong wind gusts, but risk for a brief tornado is possible.”

Temperatures which have been unseasonably warm thus far this week will be undergoing dramatic change in the coming days.

The nosedive will start as the rain moves out late Thursday with lows slipping into the 20s this weekend around here but into the teens in the Blairsville-Clayton-Ellijay areas and other places near the Tennessee and North Carolina lines.
