50+ mph wind gust recorded in Gville

The National Weather Service (NWS) station at the Gainesville airport recorded a wind gust of 53 mph about 3:00 Thursday afternoon.

That was the strongest of a day that saw gusts in the mid- to upper-30s for most of the day. And more of the same is forecast through Friday night before winds diminish. Wind chills in the 30s were recorded Thursday morning for about five hours starting around 10:00.

Cooler overnight temperatures and patchy frost are possible overnight in most locations. "Near freezing temperatures and snow flurries are possible in the northeastern mountains after 2 AM. No travel impacts are expected," a special statement from the NWS says. "Low temperatures in the 30s will continue through the weekend, with the potential of frost each night."
