FCSO: Two alleged car thieves also wanted in Ohio and LaGrange

Two men arrested recently in Cumming on charges of stealing a car from a dealership were also wanted in Ohio and west Georgia.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says the car was stolen from Platinum Used Cars after an employee handed one of them the keys for a test drive but before the employee could get in the car the driver drove off followed by the car he had arrived in.  The employee attempted to follow the stolen car but lost sight of it in the area of McFarland Road and Georgia 400.

“Detectives arrived shortly after and began working with the dealership to activate the GPS capabilities on the Mercedes,” according to the sheriff’s office.  “The GPS was showing the car in the area of 85/285 junction.”

The Chamblee Police Department was alert and a short time later the two cars were found at a convenience store. Police hemmed them in with their cars and both the suspects were taken into custody.

“During the search of the Mercedes, multiple hand tools needed to remove GPS equipment were located along with a cigarette plug-in style jammer, which explained the inconsistencies the dealership was experiencing tracking the car,” the FCSO news release says.

“It was determined the Chrysler was stolen out of Columbus, Ohio in 2023 and was involved in an armed robbery in LaGrange on October 30, 2024.”  The descriptions of the suspects in robbery “matched the two that had just been arrested.”

The accomplice who was driving the second car was identified as Winston French, 53, of Atlanta and the one who stole the Mercedes is Donny Myers, 43, the sheriff’s department said. Both were charged with Felony Theft by Taking.

As of Friday, they were being held without bond in the Forsyth County Jail.
