A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy who died Sunday was remembered Monday night with a procession from Dahlonega to Cumming and a brief ceremony in Cumming.”
“I am saddened to report that Deputy Wayne Bemis passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024 following an off-duty medical emergency several weeks ago,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a Facebook post Monday. “Deputy Bemis faithfully served the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Forsyth County for the past 4 1/2 years. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, a 21-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old son.”
Following services for Bemis in Dahlonega Monday night, his body was escorted to McDonald & Sons Funeral Home in Cumming. The motorcade traveled Georgia 400 to Exit 14, then down Veterans Memorial Blvd where it stopped momentarily in front of the Forsyth County Detention Center to allow jail deputies and staff to honor Bemis. Members of the public also paid their respect by lining a sidewalk near the detention center.
