For most, the month of October marks “spooky season” or Halloween. In Gainesville, it marks Mule Camp Market, the Gainesville Chicken Festival and, yes, Trick or Treat on the Square, but also the return of SQUAREcrows on the Square in downtown Gainesville.
The 2024 SQUAREcrows display marks the 10th event organized by Main Street Gainesville and will be available for onlookers Oct. 17-31 on and around the square with about 60 on display.
“SQUAREcrows are a fun and creative way for any community group in Gainesville to join fall festivities downtown on the historic square,” said Main Street Manager Nicole Parham. “We can’t wait to see all the unique displays for our community to enjoy this October!”
The displays will compete for the 2024 Best SQUAREcrow title. Photos will be taken and posted on the @DowntownGainesvilleGA Facebook page, where the public can vote on their favorite(s). The photo with the most “Likes” come Halloween night, wins. The grand prize will be a $150 gift certificate to a downtown business of the winner’s choice.
The last Downtown SQUAREcrows Contest saw Cosmic Fox Trading Co. named the 2023 winner with 647 “Likes”. The business erected a frisky fall fox joined by a skeleton friend.
Main Street’s SQUAREcrows display serves as a fall precursor to Trick or Treat on the Square, slated for 3-6 p.m. Oct. 31 in downtown Gainesville: https://www.exploregainesville.org/trick-or-treat-on-the-square/
