LeafWatch 2024

It’s the first full fall weekend of the year – and no doubt many people in Georgia are beginning to anticipate the fall colors that will soon – they hope – dot the landscape in our corner of the state.

With that in mind, just as we did last year, we’re going to present a weekly look at conditions around Georgia with the help of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR).

That agency notes that colors to usually begin about the middle of the month – although some color is already showing in some places, Gainesville included – and peak between then and Halloween – in the higher elevations, that is. As for the rest of the state, expect the peak to last until the mid-November.

GDNR does remind us that “Many Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites are currently closed for power outages and debris cleanup following Hurricane Helene. Check GaStateParks.org/Alerts for park closures and other updates.”
