After the storm: Disaster shelter volunteers, blood needed

The American Red Cross of Georgia is issuing an urgent appeal for volunteers who are willing to support emergency shelters here at home and across the country this fall for major national disaster relief efforts.

Interested? If so, go redcross.org/volunteer. You must complete necessary training and be able to commit to a two-week deployment.

Applicants who don’t have disaster experience, but have supervision, management or organization skills; a strong desire to help others; and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, are encouraged to apply.

Meanwhile, Life South has issued an urgent appeal for blood. Spokeswoman Blair Hickerson, appearing on 97.5 Glory FM’s Community Focus Friday, said the need is great because there have fewer people donating blood since the hurricane struck.
