LLA: Potential for sudden rise in level of Lanier

With the chances that Hurricane Helene or what’s left of it will hit the Lake Lanier area Thursday and Friday, the Lake Lanier Association (LLA) says a sudden rise in the level of the lake is not out of the question.

“The predicted rainfall of up to 12 inches could, depending on where the rain falls, raise the lake suddenly by more than 6 feet, submerging dock ramps and potentially leaving docks inaccessible from the shore,” the association warns in a news release. “Together with tropical storm-force winds and even higher gusts, objects left outdoors, including furniture, could be blown away and/or destroyed.”

LLA urges lake property owners to be sure to inspect docks “and secure everything before the storm hits!”
