Out-of-town wedding guest dies when hit by car

Authorities confirmed Monday that a pedestrian in Cumming for a wedding has died after being struck by a car Friday.

FORSYTH CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (FCSO) NEWS RELEASE:

“…at 10:00a.m., the Forsyth County 911 Center began receiving calls about a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians at the intersection of Majors Road and Ronald Reagan Blvd.

The initial investigation revealed a 2012 Acura MDX driven by a 17-year-old on his way to school.

The Acura was north bound on Ronald Reagan and was making a left hand turn on Majors Road.  The driver was not able to make the turn safely, likely due to speed, and went up on the sidewalk.  The pedestrians, Steve Olsen, and his fiancé Leslie Schwendiman both of Utah, were walking on the sidewalk on Majors Road when they were struck from behind by the Acura.

Ms. Schwendiman later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Mr. Olsen was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.  The couple were in town for a wedding.  This case remains under investigation.”
