The price of gasoline in statewide and in Gainesville is down again for the second week in a row.
The statewide average a week ago for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.63. It’s now $3.61. The price in Gainesville went from $3.61 to $3.59. Nationwide, though, a gallon this week is costing a nickel more than last Monday and is at $3.86.
AAA says the nationwide uptick comes despite lower demand and the price of oil falling several dollars per barrel and struggling to stay above $80. But, a spokesman adds, the potential for hurricane development and forecasts of an expanding heat dome over Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas this week could push oil prices higher. Refineries in these states may have to curb production to deal with the sizzling temperatures.
