Local groups stepping up activity as Nov. elections draw closer

Two Gainesville-based groups are stepping up their efforts at getting people involved in the political process through voting and otherwise.

For instance, the Newtown Florist Club, a community activist group which organizes the Gainesville Martin Luther King, Jr. parade and rally each year, Wednesday launched a live noontime Facebook Zoom offering titled Lunch and Learn.

Moderated by Newtown President Rose Johnson, Wednesday’s topic was Requesting an Absentee Ballot.

The session was recorded and is available for viewing on the Newtown Facebook page.

A second Lunch and Learn is planned Sept. 11.

Meanwhile, the Hall County Republican Party is putting final touches on plans for Ta rump Force 47 (TF47) “How to Win in 2024” training and rally Saturday 11:00-2:00 at LL Farm Venue, 5586 Ransom Free Road, in Clermont.

Expected speakers are State Rep. Lee Hawkins, State Sen.-elect Drew Echols, Hall County Commission Chairman-elect David Gibbs, District 3 Hall County Commissioner Greg Poole, and Kody Jordan, TF47 Regional Field Manager.
