Gville man jailed on child sexual battery charge

A Gainesville man was arrested Thursday on an outstanding warrant for sexual battery on a child under the age of 16.

Jose Reyes Garcia Sanchez, 54, remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond at last check.

Garcia Sanchez and the juvenile female victim were both attending a gathering at a residence on East Hall Road on January 13 when the incident occurred, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). The suspect is accused of inappropriately touching the victim.

The suspect and the victim are known to one another.

He is the recipient of many Associated Press awards and is a former judge of state and national Associated Press broadcast news contests. In 2005, he was presented with the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s President’s Award for Excellence in Journalism and in 2019 was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.

He lives in Gainesville with his wife of 52 years, the former Sandra McKnight of Clio, Alabama, and they have one child, a daughter, Lisa, who lives in Cumming with her family.
