Gville summer trolley service ending, but trolleys will return for holidays

With end of summer in sight, Gainesville officials confirmed Monday the city trolley service’s summer run will end Sept. 7 but the trolleys will return later in the year in time for the holidays.

At the same they, they announced ridership figures for last year, the trolley’s second year of service.

“HAT is thrilled to share the Gainesville Trolleys transported nearly 19,000 passengers during its second season in 2023 – an increase of almost 100% from its launch year,” said Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss, who oversees HAT (Hall Area Transit) which manages the trolley service.

Since May 4, the Gainesville Trolleys have serviced two routes – Dixon and Glenwood/Riverside neighborhoods – from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Since May 9, a single shuttle bus has serviced a route from downtown to Midland and Chattahoochee Golf Course neighborhoods – also from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.

City officials say they will release information on the Holly Jolly Trolley, which returns for the holidays to connect residents and visitors with the historic downtown square and Wilshire Wonderland of Lights, an annual holiday offering at Wilshire Trails Park hosted by Gainesville Parks & Recreation.

Details will also be available at gainesville.org and on the City’s official Facebook page, @GainesvilleGeorgiaGovernment, when available.
