GSP: DUI driver caused Habersham wreck

The state patrol says a drunk driver was responsible for a two-vehicle crash Friday at a busy intersection in northern Habersham County.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL (GSP) NARRATIVE:

“Vehicle #1 was traveling east on Old Historic Highway in the eastbound lane and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Old Historic Highway 441 and GA 15.

Vehicle #2 was traveling south on GA 15 in the left lane.

Vehicle #1 then traveled into the intersection of Old Historic Highway 441 and GA 15 and stopped in the intersection in the path of vehicle #2.

The front of vehicle #2 struck the front of vehicle #1.

After impact, vehicle #1 rotated clockwise and the rear driver side of vehicle #1 struck the passenger side of vehicle #2. After the 2nd impact, vehicle #1 came to a final uncontrolled rest with the front of vehicle #1 facing east in the right turning lane of Old Historic Highway 441. After impact, vehicle #2 came to a final uncontrolled rest in the left lane on GA 15 with the front of vehicle #2 facing south.

All area of impacts occurred in the intersection of Old Historic 441 and GA 15.

Driver #1 was found to be Driving Under the Influence.”

Other information, including any injuries and names of those involved, were not available Saturday afternoon. But Habersham County spokesman Rob Moore said three people were injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.
