Metro Atlanta added 62,700 people in the past year, including 275,233 in Forsyth County, pushing the region’s 11-county population to 5.2 million, according to 2024 population estimates released Wednesdy by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).
Each of metro Atlanta’s 11 counties saw population increases 2023-2024. Fulton County added the most with 18,500 new residents. The next three counties with the most growth were Gwinnett with 13,510; Cherokee with 7,120; and Cobb with 6,100.
Gwinnett County, by the way, became the state’s second county to top the one-million mark. Only Fulton is home to more people.
The City of Atlanta added 14,300 persons 2022-2023, and accounts as such for a very large share of the Fulton increase for the period.
The following chart shows ARC’s population estimates for 11 counties and the City of Atlanta.
