Boston’s Jarren Duran, the All-Star MVP, hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the fifth inning and the American League beat the National League 5-3 on Tuesday night for its 10th win in the past 11 All-Star Games.
*Atlanta is preparing to host a professional tennis tournament for the 14th and last time. The Atlanta Open begins at Atlantic Station on Sunday. World-number-14 and Atlanta native Ben Shelton will be playing in the tournament. The open was eliminated from the schedule after the A-T-P decided to add days to other tournaments.
*That new professional hockey team in Athens is preparing for its inaugural season. The schedule released this week for the Athens Rock Lobsters shows the team’s first game will be played on the road in Monroe, Louisiana October 11.
*Three Braves were named Sunday to this year’s all-star team: Pitchers Chris Sale and Reynaldo López and designed hitter Marcell Ozuna. The game will be played July 16 in Arlington, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers.
