UPDATE. 8:45 P.M. SUNDAY:
The church van involved in the accident Saturday in Habersham County was from River Point Community Church in Demorest. The church acknowledged that in a Facebook posting Sunday. Four juveniles onboard were seriously injured. The posting said they were on their way to an afternoon of tubing on the Chattahoochee River, adding, “Please join us in praying for our students and their families.”
UPDATE. 10:15 A.M. SUNDAY:
A Hartwell man has been charged with DUI as a result of a two-vehicle accident on Georgia 365 in Habersham County Saturday involving a church van that left four juveniles seriously injured.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“On June 29, at 1:40 PM, troopers responded to Georgia 365 and Demorest Mount Airy Highway in reference to a crash.
The investigation revealed that vehicle 1, Toyota 4Runner, was traveling east on Demorest Mount Airy Highway. Vehicle 2, Ford Econoline, was traveling south on Georgia 365.
Vehicle 1 failed to stop at the red traffic light where the two roads intersect and into the path of vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 struck vehicle 2, rotated and came to a rest. Vehicle 2 traveled onto the concrete median and came to a rest.
Driver 1 was Barry Clark, 64 YO of Hartwell, he was found to be DUI and only charged with that. He had a complaint of an injury. Driver of vehicle 2, Frank Ciresi (29 YO of Mount Berry), was uninjured.
Three juvenile passengers were seriously injured and transported by Habersham EMS to (Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville). Another juvenile passenger of vehicle 2 was seriously injured and transported by helicopter to Emory Hospital in Atlanta.”
