Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) patrol deputies arrested a 31-year-old man early Thursday after someone reported that man at the Waffle House in Buford was causing a disturbance but had left the restaurant in his vehicle and was possibly drunk.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Around 12:50…Hall County Dispatch issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for the man, later identified as Virgil Lamar Keaton…indicating he was driving a silver Toyota Corolla eastbound on Friendship Road, a short distance from the restaurant.
An HCSO patrol deputy was in the area and spotted Mr. Keaton and the vehicle on Jones Drive. Mr. Keaton turned left from Jones Drive onto Friendship Road westbound, running a stop sign in the process. The deputy activated the emergency equipment on his patrol vehicle and followed Mr. Keaton, attempting to stop him. Mr. Keaton fled from the deputy before he voluntarily stopped at Atlanta Highway.
Mr. Keaton was taken into custody without incident; however, he became combative as deputies conducted their investigation. Once deputies determined Mr. Keaton was impaired, they placed him in the back of a patrol vehicle to transport him to the Hall County Jail, and Mr. Keaton began kicking the door of the patrol vehicle. Mr. Keaton also made verbal threats to physically harm the deputy, including shooting him.
At last check, Mr. Keaton remains at the Hall County Jail on the following charges:
· Reckless driving
· Failure to stop at stop sign
· Failure to maintain lane
· Driving too fast for conditions
· Fleeing/attempting to elude
· Driving while license suspended
· DUI-alcohol/less safe
· Open container violation
· Obstruction of an officer
· Terroristic threats and acts
Mr. Keaton has a Peachtree City, GA address, but he indicated to jail intake officers he is homeless.”
