3rd time was not the charm for one Gville man

A Gainesville man remained in the Hall County Jail Friday afternoon following his arrest Wednesday by sheriff’s deputies – their third attempt this week in trying to take him into custody. The sheriff’s office says the saga began to unfold Sunday night..

During the initial investigation, deputies also determined that the driver, Ismael Santos Diaz, 33…was not licensed to drive. (In addition, his) vehicle had a cracked windshield and an open container with an alcoholic beverage inside.

Santos Diaz, who stepped out of his vehicle before talking with deputies, then ran away on foot. Deputies briefly ran after him on foot before calling for a K9 deputy. Despite the efforts, deputies did not find him that night. They obtained warrants for his arrest on the following misdemeanor charges.

  • Open container violation
  • Expired drivers license
  • Expired tag

On Wednesday morning…deputies went to Santos Diaz’s apartment in the 2400 block…Thompson Bridge Road. As deputies were attempting to serve the warrants, Santos Diaz ran from them on foot from his apartment. Deputies chased him on foot and arrested him a short time later. They charged him with a second count of obstruction of an officer for running despite being told to stop.
