2 meat processors, one with locations in Cumming & Dahlonega, under federal investigation

The child labor investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor involve allegations that Tyson Foods and Perdue Farms have used migrant children to clean slaughterhouses, according to Reuters and SRN News. The New York Times first reported the allegations and federal investigations.

Tyson’s is the one with operations in Cumming and Dahlonega.

A New York Times Magazine article this week showed migrant children working overnight shifts for contractors in the companies’ plants on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the report said.

Reuters was not able to independently verify the details of the Times report. The Labor Department and Tyson Foods did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
