2-hour limit coming to part of one Gville parking deck

Sixty-two parking spots on the ground level (first floor) at the Main Street Parking Deck and those along the ramp to the second floor will become two-hour parking spaces sometime next week. They will be marked with “Downtown Customer Only” and/or “2-Hour Parking Limit” signs,

“We have heard from many of our downtown merchants that designating a limited number of spaces in the Main Street Parking Deck as two-hour parking would be very beneficial,” said Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss. “These spots could each see a dozen-plus vehicles come and go every hour, improving the experience for those running into town for a quick errand, like grabbing coffee or a to-go order from their favorite restaurant, picking up retail orders they’ve already purchased online, etc. Spots that, collectively, may not see more than 62 drivers during peak hours could now serve double or triple the number of customers.”

Timed parking, however, will not apply to the nine accessible parking spaces on the first floor, nor any spaces in the Gainesville North Parking Deck at this time.

“Additionally, freeing up more spaces for parking turnover, we hope, will help our more mature citizens and visitors who can’t navigate flights of stairs or walk longer distances as easily as others, especially with shopping bags or to-go orders in hand,” Santee-Moss said. “That, and as a customer/patron, you’re less likely to avoid a more congested area, even during the holidays, when you know there’s a better chance of finding parking.”
