FCSO: $12k theft of Verizon merchandise solved

Forsyth County authorities recently made an arrest in connection with the theft of $12,000 worth of Verizon merchandise by, they say, an employee of the mobile telephone business. Donald Carroll got a job at a Verizon store but allegedly used a driver’s license in another name in doing so.

FORSYTH CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (FCSO) NEWS RELEASE (SOME EDITING FOR BREVITY AND CLARITY):

“After a few months, Verizon contacted the store to inform them they were receiving calls from non-Verizon customers saying their identities were being used to open Verizon accounts and bill phones and other devices (such as tablets) to those accounts.

Verizon’s investigation led to the fraudulent name Carroll used to gain employment.  He not only worked in the store in Forsyth County but also in Gwinnett County.

As FCSO detectives were investigating the case, Gwinnett County arrested Carroll on their charges.

On Nov. 21, he was transferred to the Forsyth County Jail, charged with identity fraud and eight counts of theft by taking. Carroll is being held on bonds totaling $104,310.
