The City of Gainesville, Georgia will offer a free Georgia Adopt-A-Stream-certified freshwater monitoring workshop from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 23, at Linwood Nature Preserve.

Volunteers will learn how to measure temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity in freshwater streams, and why these measurements are important. The workshop will include a classroom lesson, outdoor field practice and an open-book certification test. Upon completion, newly certified volunteers will be encouraged to choose a freshwater stream site to monitor on a monthly basis.

Though free to participate, spaces in the workshop are limited, so preregistration is required. To register for the workshop, please sign up via the following link before 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/e02c5d495ed348ebaa1f2a6325a88a75
