Two youngsters got more than they bargained for after they crawled into a culvert pipe on Gainesville’s westside Thursday.
“At 4:09 Thursday afternoon, Gainesville Fire Department along with Gainesville PD, responded to two kids possibly trapped inside of a culvert pipe,” fire department spokesman Joshua Sheridan wrote in an email early Friday. “The location was at Wilshire Park near Gainesville High school. Gainesville PD arrived on scene first with fire arriving immediately after.”
Sheridan said police found an 11- and 13-year-old had crawled inside of a culvert pipe and had been washed through to the other side.
He added that fire and EMS responders evaluated the pair but that they both had no injuries.
A series of brief but sometimes heavy showers moved through parts of town about that time.
