Friday the Gainesville City School System (GCSS) officially unveiled and dedicate Willie Mitchell Drive at Fair Street School.
“Mitchell’s legacy of service and commitment to community will live on,” reads a posting on the school system’s Facebook page. “Thank you for the impact you have made on the lives of so many.”
Mitchell who represented the part of town around Fair Street School on the board for 34 years chose not to seek re-election last year.
In December, the school board announced plans to honor him and thank him for his service by designating the access connecting Positive Place to Collins Circle at the school Willie Mitchell Drive.
