‘When it rains it pours’ – in more ways than one

As a soaking rain continued to fall across north Georgia Friday afternoon, Hall County sheriff’s deputies found themselves with three high-profile, rush hour incidents.

Thompson Bridge Road at Lee Road was closed for a time because of an accident. Motorists were asked to use Elrod Road to the north and Hopewell Church Road to the south as detours.

Also, in the North Hall area but earlier in the afternoon, deputies spent some time directing traffic on Cleveland Highway at Bivens Road assisting county firefighters as they fought to contain a mobile home fire. (See separate story.) In that instance, motorists were being asked to use Jim Hood/Nopone Roads to the north and Lakeland Road to the south as detours.

Meanwhile, on the south end of the county, the problem was a surface street issue in the Flowery Branch area: a garbage truck that got stuck, blocking Mt. Salem Circle in the 6200 block. Deputies stood by as a wrecker attempted to free the truck while advising motorists to use Wade Orr Road to the north and Georgia Highway 13/Atlanta Highway or Frazer Road to the south.
