Retired radio executive dies

A voice that was familiar to thousands of Hall countians starting in 1966 has been stilled. Red Healan, who was 96, died Tuesday.

Healan came to Gainesville from WRFC in Athens when he accepted a job as Manager and Executive Vice President at WGGA. Over the years, he voiced many commercials on the station

He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in the late 1990s and served a term as President of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.

His community service included serving on the Board of Directors for the Boys Club, Governor and President of the North Georgia Civitans, Board of Directors for the Salvation Army, the Northeast Georgia Ad Club, and many other local and state associations. 

Active in his church, Healan was a member of St. Paul United Methodist for more than 50 years, serving in roles such as Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, lay leader, Chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Committee, official Board Chairman, and many other roles.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
