A welfare check by Hall County Animal Control Aug. 1 opened an investigation that lasted one-and-a-half months and ended with jailing of a 29-year-old Gainesville woman on animal cruelty charges.
Officers were responding to a call from someone who said a dog had been left in a kennel outside a house on Peak Ridge Lane, according to a report from Animal Control.
HALL COUNTY NARRATIVE:
“When Animal Control arrived at the residence, they found the dog dead…inside a kennel with neither shade nor water.
Animal Control transported the dog to the Hall County Animal Shelter for further examination, where it was determined the dog’s cause of death was consistent with a heat stroke.
Once Animal Control could build its case, an arrest warrant was issued for the dog’s owner, Lejandra Josefina Olivares-Alvarado.
(Friday) Animal Control responded to a call in the same area of Peak Ridge Lane, where a puppy was on the loose.
Once Animal Control arrived, the puppy was impounded and taken to the Hall County Animal Shelter.
Olivares-Alvarado, who was also the owner of the deceased dog, attempted to reclaim the puppy, according to the report, at the Animal Shelter that same afternoon…(and) was arrested on the active warrant.
The case remains under investigation.”
A spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Monday afternoon Olivares-Alvarado was released on $1,300 bond earlier in the day.
