Two people remained hospitalized Friday afternoon with critical injuries following that one-vehicle crash near Gillsville Thursday, and the driver has been charged with DUI, among other things.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Patrol deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrived at the scene of the crash on Whiporwill around 2:25 p.m. and found an overturned vehicle on the side of the roadway…

Members of HCSO’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) arrived to take over the investigation. The preliminary investigation determined the driver, identified as 31-year-old Miranda Rose Young of Baldwin, was traveling northbound on Whiporwill Road approaching Joe Chandler Road when she entered the westbound lane of travel, driving onto the should of the road. She struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to become airborne and strike a tree. The vehicle vaulted and flipped, landing on its roof.

During the crash, the passenger, identified as 23-year-old Trevor Wade Southers of Gainesville, was ejected and became trapped under the roof of the vehicle. Ms. Young was trapped in the wreckage. The investigation determined neither party was wearing a seat belt.

Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Ms. Young for the following offenses:

  • DUI
  • Serious injury by motor vehicle
  • Too fast for conditions
  • Failure to maintain lane
  • Driving on wrong side of the roadway
  • Expired registration
  • Tire requirements
  • Seatbelt requirements

Mr. Southers will be cited for seat belt requirements.”
