The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur have moved on and north Georgia should be rain-free the next couple of days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). However, there are lingering power outages in the area this morning.
As of 6:30, Jackson EMC was reporting 22 of its customers along the Barrow-Gwinnett county line were still in the dark. Habersham EMC, meanwhile, had 19 customers in White County near Yonah Mountain without power and Sawnee EMC reported 125 still without power, all but one of them in Forsyth County near the Fulton County line.
Most of Georgia Power’s outages this morning are in metro Atlanta and west Georgia. In our area, a few outages are still showing. They are in the North Hall, Cleveland, Conelia, and Commerce areas.
Rainfall across northeast Georgia during the storm totaled two-to-three inches. The NWS station at the Gainesville airport has been out of service for several days but another, operated by the University of Georgia, in Oakwood showed 2.01 inches for the 24 hours ending at midnight last night.
The 7-day outlook for the Gainesville area shows a weekend free of rain with showers returning Monday.
