GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“On February 3, 2024 at 8:22pm, Troopers were dispatched a crash on I-985 Northbound at SR 347. Upon arrival the investigation determined that Vehicle #1, a Kia Forte and Vehicle #2, a Nissan Rogue were traveling north on I-985, in the left lane. Driver #2, Joice Buice (Flowery Branch) came to a sudden stop due to striking a vehicle. Driver #1, Aniyah Austin (Lawrenceville) was following too closely and struck the Nissan Rogue in the rear with its front.

On February 3, 2024, at 8:30pm, Troopers were patrolling in the area of I-985 NB near mile marker eight in Hall County. While conducting a traffic stop on the left shoulder of the interstate, a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred in the left lane next to the Trooper’s position. Shortly after this collision, three additional collisions occurred in the same location, just south of the Trooper’s location. Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, an additional Trooper from Georgia State Patrol Post 6, Gainesville, and HERO were dispatched to the area to assist in the closing of the Northbound Lanes of I-985.

Upon arrival, the Trooper observed a 2015 Nissan Rogue, driven by Joyce Elizabeth Buice, 40, of Flowery Branch, disabled in the roadway blocking the left northbound lane. A 2019 Honda Ridgeline and a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan, both sustaining minor damages, were observed to be pulled to the left shoulder and off the roadway.

During the investigation, the Trooper determined the Rogue was traveling north in the left lane when it came upon heavy traffic. Ms. Buice followed too closely behind the Ridgeline, driven by William Collins, 24, of Toccoa, and struck it in the rear with the front of the Rouge. Upon impact with the Rouge, the Ridgeline was pushed forward into the rear of the Tiguan, driven by Dylan Burrell, 29, of Flowery Branch. No injuries were sustained in this collision.

The northbound lanes of I-985 were shut down for approximately one hour.”
