UPDATE: Metro Atlanta man jailed after 2-county chase that started in S. Hall

“(Friday at 4:35 p.m.), a trooper from GSP-Gainesville attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Silverado on SR 347 (Lanier Islands Pkwy) in Hall County for a traffic violation.

After initially coming to a stop, the driver of the Silverado, Jarvis Yizar, age 38, fled the traffic stop and initiated a pursuit, traveling eastbound on SR 347. The Silverado traveled onto the southbound entrance ramp to I-985 and its driver lost control, traveling into the grass area east of the ramp. While pursuing the fleeing pickup, the trooper attempted to prevent further fleeing and struck the Silverado on the right front area. The driver of the Silverado continued to flee, and contact was made between the pickup and the patrol car several times on the ramp.

The pursuit continued to I-985 Southbound and entered Gwinnett County. The violator drove recklessly through traffic and through the emergency lanes. Just south of Exit 4, the trooper attempted to end the pursuit using a PIT maneuver. The violator was able to regain control and continued traveling south on I-985. When the trooper set up for a second PIT maneuver, the violator slowed and the trooper traveled around the front of the pickup, off the left edge of the roadway, and struck the center median cable barrier.

The trooper was able to catch up to the violator near Mile Marker 2.5 and performed a successful PIT maneuver, disabling the pickup. The violator then fled on foot across the northbound lanes of I-985 and up a steep embankment. The trooper pursued on foot and eventually took the suspect into custody, having to deploy a Taser to gain compliance.”
