UPDATE: Lakeshore Mall revitalization plans

The company planning a major re-do of what is now Lakeshore Mall is apparently readying itself to move forward. There is an item on the agenda for the January 14 meeting of the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board that deals with that.

Branch Lakeshore Associates LP plans to ask the board to rezone the 49-acre tract from Regional Business to Planned Unit Development which would clear the way for a mixed-use development.

Plans for the project were announced last month. They call for more than 300,000 square feet of retail space, more than 38,000 square feet of greenspace and more than 650 multi-family housing units, and room for future development of townhomes and a hotel.

Groundbreaking is not expected, though, for another two years.
