We now know what the police investigation was about that caused a traffic alert in Lula late Saturday afternoon. It was “potentially explosive” devices found by a member of the Lula Historical Society who was doing an inventory of a donation box.
The historical society, in a Facebook post, described the items as “some very old railroad devices (that were) potentially explosive in nature.”
In order to ensure the safety and well-being of the Lula Community, the post continued, “we called the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). In an abundance of caution, HCSO then called in the proper authorities to investigate and to properly remove and safely dispose of these devices…”
The post concluded with “We are sorry for any inconvenience to the community during the investigation.”
The sheriff’s office had not released any information on the incident as of late Sunday afternoon.
In a traffic alert Saturday afternoon announcing road closures in the area, authorities with the sheriff’s office did say that at the time the 6000 block of Main Street and Carter Alley in Lula was blocked “due to an ongoing investigation.”
