HCSO NARRATIVE:
Hall County Sheriff’s…deputies arrested two men on alcohol, drug and traffic charges on I-985 early Thursday morning…
Just after 3:30…a deputy observed a Chevrolet Silverado speeding from the Exit 17 on ramp to I-985 northbound. The deputy followed, pacing the vehicle at 105 mph in a 70 mph zone. When the deputy activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop, the driver pulled over just south of the Exit 20 off ramp to Candler Road (SR 60).
Additional HCSO patrol deputies and Oakwood Police Department officers arrived to assist with the investigation.
The driver, who initially provided the deputy with another person’s ID, later was identified as Christopher Hernandez-Soto, 19, of Gainesville. His passenger, the registered owner of the vehicle, was identified as Elmer Gustavo Munoz-Garfias, 18, of Gainesville. Deputies detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle occupants and from inside the vehicle. After a search of the truck, deputies located two open bottles of Modelo beer behind the driver’s seat. They also found a THC vape pen in the vehicle.
Both men were placed under arrest at the scene.
Hernandez-Soto was charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: underage possession of alcohol, underage consumption of alcohol, open container violation, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, possession of a false identification document (driver’s license belonging to someone else) and driving while unlicensed. He was also charged with felony possession of THC oil. Hernandez-Soto was placed on an immigration hold.
Munoz-Garfias was charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: underage possession of alcohol, underage consumption of alcohol, open container violation and permitting an unlicensed person to operate his vehicle. He was also charged with felony possession of THC oil.”
Both men remained in the Hall County Jail with no bond as of late Friday afternoon.
