UPDATE #3: Newly-weds among victims of Dawson Co. helicopter crash

6:30 P.M. SUNDAY UPDATE:

A groom was killed but his bride of a few hours survived that helicopter crash Friday night in Dawson County. The pilot was also killed. The couple, Dave Fiji, 25, and Jessni had just been married at The Revere, a wedding venue near Dawsonville. Their intent was to fly to Atlanta, spend the night there, and leave Sunday on their honeymoon. The pilot’s name has not been released. Jessni Fiji is hospitalized at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. No word on a possible cause of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

8:30 P.M. SATURDAY UPDATE:

The helicopter was a Robinson R66 operated by Prestige Helicopters and had left a wedding venue just moments before it went down about 10:00, according to a company official. Social media posts by people who say they live in the area where the crash occurred said it was raining at the time and at least one reported hearing helicopter shortly before the crash.

12:30 P.M. SATURDAY UPDATE:

The chopper went down late Friday night in a wooded area near Mt. Vernon Road. A woman who was pulled from the wreckage was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. The identities of the victims have not been released. Federal investigators are enroute.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED 8:00 A.M. SATURDAY:

Two people were killed and one injured in a helicopter crash in Dawson County Friday night.

Details are sketchy at this time, but the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a social media posting that its officers as well as personnel from the county’s fire and EMS service had responded to the scene.

As late as daybreak Saturday, the posing said the investigation was “active and ongoing” and said further information would come from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
