Two charged with stealing purse, using credit/debit cards found in it

Two suspects have been charged after a woman’s purse was stolen earlier this month at the Department of Driver Services (DDS) office on Aviation Boulevard in Gainesville. Both are charged with not only stealing the purse but using credit or debit cards that were in it.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“The preliminary investigation indicates Shamarel Deshawn Perdue, 29, of Lilburn, and On Dontranique Alashonia Mathis, 30, of Gainesville, were at the DDS building on March 1, 2024, when they stole a purse that had been mislaid. They quickly took the purse and its contents, including a financial transaction card, and traveled to Flowery Branch. There they made a purchase with the stolen card at a game store on Spouts Springs Road.

The victim reported to law enforcement that her purse had been stolen and an unauthorized purchase had been made with her transaction card.

Investigators with both the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the Flowery Branch Police Department were able to connect Perdue and Mathis to the crimes. Both were arrested on March 14 at a location on Linwood Drive in Gainesville.

HCSO charged both suspects with theft of lost/mislaid property and financial transaction card theft, while the Flowery Branch Police Department charged them with financial transaction card fraud. Perdue posted a bond of $17,750 and was released from the Hall County Jail on Thursday night. At last check, Mathis remains in custody on a bond of $17,750.”
