Trump cites Habersham murder case during Ga. rally

Donald Trump cited a recent Habersham County murder case while calling for tougher immigrant controls during a rally in Macon Sunday.

Trump repeated a favorite campaign theme blaming his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration in general, for “open borders” he says have led to criminals crossing into the country from Mexico.

The former president singled out two cases of illegal immigrants accused of killing Georgians: Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez, the Habersham murder victim, and Laken Riley, who was murdered on the UGA campus last February

Rodriguez-Ramirez was killed on Tuesday after being abducted at a Walmart in Habersham County.

Friday, two state lawmakers, including one from Dahlonega, weighed in on the case, citing what they called “a lack of border security.”
