*City bus drivers in Augusta might go on strike. Their union — Transport Workers of America / Local 527 — is frustrated over stalled contract talks with management. Union president Benyoel Morgan says union members voted “no” on management’s last proposal in June and then voted to authorize the union to call a strike.
*Lovejoy residents speak up and a data center applicant backs down. Plans for a 15-building data center in the metro Atlanta town were withdrawn in the face of vocal opposition from townspeople. Now, the city council will now redo city zoning laws to prevent future data centers.
*Severe overcrowding at many Georgia animal shelters is prompting an urgent call for pet adoptions. Rescue facilities from metro Atlanta to Augusta, Macon, and other parts of the state are offering adoption specials through August, with discounted or even waived adoption fees.
