They’re baaaack…

With September comes fall, falling leaves, football and falling temps and, of late, in parts of the country including Georgia – the Joro spider. And thousands of them have already been documented in the state, including more than 200 in Hall County.

The arachnid, whose bite is no danger to humans, was first spotted ten years ago and has been returning each year since, in ever increasing numbers.

As of the end of August, the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health (CISEH) had documented 222 reports of the six-legged creatures in Hall County. Among neighboring counties: 125 in Barrow, 187 in Forsyth, and 577 in Gwinnett – and we’re just getting started with them this year.

Face it, they’ll probably be around another six weeks or so, at least, according to the CISEH which uses a monitoring program called Joro Watch to keep tabs on them.
