‘The pain of losing him so suddenly is impossible to put into words’

The sister of the Pendergrass man who drowned in Lake Lanier over the weekend has created a GoFund account for help with funeral expenses.

22-year-old Terrell Shelton’s body was found by state game wardens late Saturday night near Mary Alice Park. He had been missing since about 3:00 that afternoon while trying to swim with friends from shore to a nearby island.

“Today, we received the news no family ever wants to hear,” Calista Shelton wrote in a Facebook post Sunday. “My brother, Terrell, was found after going missing at Lake Lanier, and unfortunately, he did not make it home.

“At just 22 years old, he had so much life ahead of him. He was a son, a brother, a partner, a friend, and someone who was deeply loved by so many people. The pain of losing him so suddenly is impossible to put into words.

“The last few hours have been filled with hope, prayers, fear, and heartbreak as we waited for answers. While this is not the outcome we prayed for, we are grateful to everyone who searched, shared posts, prayed, and supported our family during this unimaginable time.

T”errell, I wish I had more time with you. I wish we could have one more conversation, one more laugh, one more memory. You will always be my brother, and I will carry you with me for the rest of my life.

“Please keep our family, his boyfriend, and everyone who loved him in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating loss.

“As we navigate this heartbreaking time, we are asking for help to cover funeral and memorial expenses. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial burden on our family and allow us to give him the service and farewell he deserves.

“If you are unable to donate, we would be grateful if you could share this fundraiser and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.

“We love you, Terrell. Forever and always❤️
