The latest on proposed ICE facility in Oakwood

Word has trickled down to Oakwood that Hagerstown, Maryland and Roxbury Township, New Jersey have received notices from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) updating plans for ICE detention/processing facilities in those communities.

DHS/ICE say that they and their contractors will be meeting stakeholders and will be completing the Historical and Environmental assessments before any further work is conducted on sites and buildings in Hagerstown and Roxbury Township.

However, Oakwood City Manager B.R. White said Wednesday he’s heard nothing like that regarding plans for such a facility in Oakwood. “Oakwood has not received any such notices,” White wrote in an email.

Oakwood and Social Circle are two places in Georgia that have been targeted by the federal government for similar facilities.
