GSP: Teen caused wreck while passing in a no-passing zone

A 16-year-old the state patrol says was passing a pickup and a tractor in a no-passing lane has been charged in connection with a late morning crash that closed Gillsville Highway for a time Thursday morning.

STATE PATROL NARATIVE:

At about 11:00, a Trooper from the Gainesville Post responded to State Route 323 (Gillsville Highway), in the area of East Hall Rd.

Upon arrival, the Trooper determined that the driver of a 2007 BMW 328 was traveling west.  The juvenile was passing a white F-150, driven by Warren Brown, 72, of Braselton, and a green John Deere tractor, driven by Kory Thomas, 55, Gainesville, in a no passing zone.

As Thomas was turning left into a private driveway, the juvenile struck the left side of the tractor with its front. The BMW and the tractor both were disabled in the roadway, blocking both lanes of traffic.

There were no reported injuries, and the 16-year-old was cited for improper passing.
