*The man wanted in the shooting death last night of a Warm Springs police officer has died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. Jimmie Stevenson was a passenger in a car that was stopped late this morning in South Carolina, according to the GBI. Officer Chris Fisher, on the force since only May, was gunned down in what one source speculates was an ambush.
*Rising sea levels threaten to cut coastal Georgia wildlife routes in half. UGA researchers released projections this week showing Chatham County could lose 17 to 50 percent of its natural travel corridors by the end of the century. Scientists warn that flooded coastlines will break habitats into isolated islands, forcing wildlife onto busy roads and into suburban neighborhoods. They say protecting connected habitat farther inland could give wildlife somewhere to move as coastal areas flood.
*The GBI has arrested Clayton County sheriff’s deputy Errol Farrell, Jr., 40, for Misuse of a License Plate Reader System (LPRS). Preliminary information indicates that Farrell used the Flock Safety System for non-law enforcement purposes.
*Georgia’s voter rolls have no evidence of widespread voter fraud. WSB-TV says results from an audit of close to 7.9 million voter registrations showed that just over 400 potential non-citizens had a voting history. The voter rolls are considered to be 99.9% accurate. Most problems were connected to human error at the Department of Driver Services (DDS) and the automatic voter registration system.
