Suspect in Gville man’s death commits suicide

A suspect in a Gainesville man’s death has been found dead in his cell at the Fulton County Jail and his death has been ruled a suicide. That’s according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

20-year-old Travis Landrey was found dead Wednesday. He was behind bars after his arrest on a murder charge, accused of killing a Gainesville man during a carjacking in Atlanta.

Landrey was arrested in October 2022, in connection to the murder of Christopher Eberhart, 57.

Eberhart, a Gainesville framer who was waiting to start work at a construction site, was found shot to death in an upscale Buckhead neighborhood several days before Landrey’s arrest. He was found dead in the driveway of a vacant lot.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED OCT. 18, 2022: The man who was shot and killed in north Atlanta last week has been identified as a Gainesville man – Christopher Eberhart. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the slaying. Eberhart’s body was found in the driveway of a house in Buckhead shortly at 7:00 Thursday morning. The AJC quotes Atlanta police as saying Eberhart, who worked in construction, had apparently driven into Atlanta early that day to beat the traffic and had backed into a driveway to await the time to start work. Police believe he was the victim of a carjacking. Authorities were able to track Eberhart’s stolen pickup to Alabama, where the suspect was arrested late Thursday.
