Sunday’s storms: An update

Power has been restored across metro Atlanta and other places in the state after being lost because of the stormy weather that moved through early Sunday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Fayette County about 5:00 but caused no major damage. Around 15,000 customers were without power statewide Sunday, but everything was basically restored by late morning.

Habersham County was apparently the hardest hit place in the Gainesville area. The sheriff’s office there posted on social media Sunday cautioning motorists about downed trees and powerlines that in some places were blocking streets and roads. The Clarkesville Police Department did the same.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday morning that its deputies investigated three instances in which motorists struck trees that were in the road Sunday morning. Two of the accidents occurred around 6:00 on Skitts Mountain Road. The third happened about 30 minutes later on Candler Road. There were no injuries in any of the crashes.
